The second offering from MC Lyte’s upcoming album, her first in 11 years, is a lot more than you might expect. Light tackles a high energy, low tempo track very reminiscent of Chris Brown’s “Look At Me Now,” with a rapid fire flow which is something that we’re not used to from the legendary femcee. You might think that venturing into new territory might slow Lyte down, but think again. She jumps on the track like she went to the Busta Rhymes school of lyric flipping. With vocals provided by AV and joined by burgeoning femcee Lil Mama, “Ball” is a fun, refreshing 3 minute lyrical rhymefest that reminds you that the girls are just as good as the boys. Oh, and don’t forget the cuts visuals provided by director Ron Yuan. Hip-hop dancers, all white back drops, appropriate location shoots and yes, a thrown make this a good time worth having. Will this joint blow up radio? No, but it will rack up the Youtube views. Watch, enjoy and comment.
